When we listen to a great song we often think it's great because its produced by a good musician. Deep down we really don’t know what makes a song a great song. All we know is that if one of our favorite musicians is producing the song then its considered great in your own opinion, but let's take a dive into the music industry and see what record labels look for in a song that is considered great.
First, they see if the song makes them feel something. If a song doesn’t make you feel some type of emotion then the song is irrelevant. A song is suppose to make you wanna dance, smile, drill, yell, and everything else under the sun. songs are meant to make you feel something weather that through the background beat or lyrics itself. According to song town blog, “Great songs make you feel the feeling that the writer(s) had in mind when they wrote it. In fact, they generally make you feel the feeling they felt in the room that day. If it makes you laugh, it probably made them laugh. If it makes you cry, they probably cried while writing it”. Basically a song makes your feel the musician feelings and that the 1st thing record labels look into.
Secondly, It communicates a message that is clear. No disrespect to mumble rappers, but their songs have not meaning to it or produces a message besides the message of yeah we know you have not talent. Like a song is supposed to produce a clear message to the listeners. Allowing those who listen to be able to write a essay about the song without questioning themselves. Very few great songs are nonsensical. I would bet that more than 99% of songs that are considered great communicate clearly.
Thirdly, Great songs tend to stand the test of time. Generally, they are not about trendy topics or fads. Instead, they talk about love, life, loss, etc. Those big, universal ideas never go away. Songs are suppose leave these thoughts in your head for a long time. For example, Logic’s song about suicide prevention number that was a powerful song that always leave a powerful message and idea in the listeners head off tops. Songs about real things that are relatable to others is a song that will be considered great by record labels.
Lastly, They touch on a universal truth or emotion. As previously mentioned Logic’s song “1-800-273-8255” which is a number to call that helps you not kill yourself and commit suicide. His song had so much meaning to it and touched so many people. Just like the song “Yesterday” by the Beatles touches on the universal emotion of longing for better days from the past. “I Can’t Make You Love Me” touches the universal emotion of being in love with someone who doesn’t love you back. “Dust In The Wind” deals with the universal question of “Why am I here?” and “What is the point of life?” Most great songs hit on big universal truth. Great songs aren’t made overnight unless it’s a song that makes you sad to happy and touches everyone.
The main purpose of this blog entry talks about the four different reasons on what makes the song great. They did use their source as a strong evidence of what a great song should feel/sound like. It was used effectively. This seems like the person knows what is being written based on common knowledge. If you were to revise this post, I would include a few sources to back up your points so it sounds more credible than opinionated. I would also include a couple songs, as an example, that relates to each of your main points (besides the last one). Other than that, everything looks perfect.
