Ways The Music (rap) Industry Has Changed Since The 90's

Yes the 90's had a spurge of drug dealers, prostitutes, and killings rising in numbers I can't count to, but the 90's had more to it then just people being drug lords and human trafficking. The 90's was a time were rap was embraced and cherished by many artists and upcoming rappers. Rap back then was something worth buying a CD for compared to now where you have to second guest if its worth buying this song on iTunes. Rap has changed tremendously since the 90's for many reasons that caused many differences from Rappers to Artists. A rapper is a lyrically gifted musician who can spit bars to any beat and have you nodding your head for hours. A artist is someone who just keeps you dancing to the melody. None of which matters anymore because the music industry changed.

Rappers in the 90's compared to now were much more heart felt and serious about the rap game. Everything they said in their raps were either legit or something they witnessed happened to them to impact their lives. Nowadays rappers aren't even rappers their artists. Most artist in today's music industry are lying about most of the things they said they did or possess. Rap and music in general is all about being legit to the audience and to yourself. If you just rap about things you know you haven't done or did then you lose more fans and people begin to shame the rap game.

Back then in the music industry not too long ago the only thing that mattered was beats and lyrics. compared to now where you hear catchy melodies and repeated phrases. Nowadays most rappers don't have to even be lyrically gifted instead they just say three words recorded over a sick beat and boom that's a hit song. Yes, we're talking about lil pump. His fame came off one song he made called, "D Rose". literally on the song he said D Rose about 100 times. that song became so catchy that it made him one of the most famous teenage rap stars in the music industry. Compared to those other rappers like Logic who actually is lyrically gifted and has meaning to his music gets little notice compared to lil pump.

Money and the internet also has changed the Music industry too. Money has always played a major role in the rap game because where ever the money is at that is where you want to be at as a rapper or artist. Back then it used to be if your song makes since and you lyrically wow the crowd then your bound to make some cash. Compared to now where if you have a catchy song and it extracts a lot of people then your bound to get cash. The internet works the same way, see in the 90's music was sold manually through CD's or Records. Now you can just post your song on YouTube or any song related app and people can hear your song. if you get 20-40 CD's or Records sold a day then you were getting famous by the day. compared to now if you get more then 200,000 views on YouTube or plays then your getting famous tomorrow morning.

Now look I'm not knocking no one for if they are a rapper or artist. if your making your money then your making your money. I don't want to shame someones game for chasing the cash. this was simply just to depict some major differences between the 90's to now music industry.

  1. The main purpose of this blog is show different rap was back in the 1990s compared to now in 2018. As for the source, I didn't see one being used, but there was a good example of the "artist" Lil Pump compared to Logic. Rappers used to rap about real things, stories. Now we have people like Lil Pump rapping about Gucci Gangs and really just repeating the name of the song for 2 mins. Logic on the other hand is giving us a reason to listen about Suicide prevention in in "1-800-273-8255. The only thing the author needs to revise and add is their source to back up the change of the rap game. One question I have is should we just put these "artists" in another or a new genre away from Rap?
