Myths that haunt the music industry

When musicians try to get to the fame the easy way they seem to go down the wrong path. The path of faith and hope, instead of hard work and the specifics. If you are a musician you need to set goals for yourself and stick to it. Because believing in those myths that haunt the music industry will ruin you and making your music career short. There has only been 4 myths to be true to the music industry that haunts musicians.

The first myth is most musicians believe if you perform enough at different places they might just be discovered by a major record label. Yes of course musicians are going to play at many different joints to get their music out there, but the problem with this is that it's useless and tactless. This is more of a scratch and win type of thing because instead of you laying down specifics on how you can get noticed your basing it off a hit and miss situation. For example, think back to how obama got to be president because he started off campaigning in small areas and then eventually it turned into campaigning at major places. Basically he was working his way up to get noticed and not just bouncing around. Record labels don't even look for talented people anymore.

Secondly, you can only be successful if you are accompanied by a major record label. This myth is not true because most trap artist become successful off their own record label that consist of being a small franchise. Yea eventually they switch labels in the future if the opposing label is offering more money for their talents. Basically the problem with this is that there is many successful musicians in the music industry that aren’t on  major record labels.

Thirdly, in order for a musician to be successful they need to focus on their craft. This is wrong because if a musician just focuses on creativity it will without a doubt make them appealing, but it wouldn’t make them money or noticable. Musicians want to get noticed and get money that is the two main motives to musicians nowadays. Deep down if they just believe in working on craft then it's just stripping their minds away from working on their strengths and weaknesses.

Lastly, the music industry is dead. The music industry is changing and it demands a change in mindset. This myth is a two sider meaning it can go both ways. Yes the talent in the music industry is dead off tops, but the amount of work produced by those musicians trying to get noticed in the music industry is not dead. Each and everyday there is that person still trying to sale their mixtapes and promote their soundcloud channel. On the other hand, yes major record labels have had bad decisions on who they should choose to represent, but that doesn’t mean that the music industry is dead it only makes a portion of it die out.

In order to get pass those myths all you need to do is work hard and start setting attainable goals for yourself as a musician. If you work hard towards something you want to do then you will be able to master it without a doubt. Goal setting is the smartest thing you can do as a musician because you’ll know how far you’ve gotten in the music industry.

  1. The main purpose of this blog was to mention the main four myths we the listeners and performers believe in, in order to be successful in the music industry. I don't think the author used a source. The author did mention artists trying to promote their soundclouds. If the author did choose to rewrite. I would just change the body of this blog. I liked the introduction and conclusion. If the author just used better examples or a source it would've been stronger. For each myth are their examples through the career of a certain musical artist?
